Classic Car Reviews 1965 Chevrolet Impala

When you are sitting around talking about a classic car the 1965 Chevy Impala ranks among the best! This car was a “muscle car” that you could buy for your family as it was a full sized automobile. This car rocked and rolled onto the market in 1965 and introduced the classic 409 cubic inch model that The Beach Boys sang about. Giddy up, Giddy up, 409! This was one fast horse to ride. You could purchase a standard model Chevy Impala but it also came standard as a Chevy Impala SS (Super Sport) model and also as the “luxury model” which was the Caprice option made for the Super Sport sedan version also. These cars didn’t look like so much like muscle cars until you raised the hood and what an engine you had to admire. The basic models sold from between $2700.00 to $2800.00 depending on the options. Compared to what you pay today for a fully loaded automobile a fully laid out 1965 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport sedan was a whopping $3000.00 packed with all the bells and whistles available. All you needed to add were a couple of speakers and an eight track tape player and a FM converter and you had it made in the shade. Oh a couple of young girls never hurt a young mans pride and if you were racing for pink slips the “409” would get you down the line in a hurry! You could choose from up to ten different engine options the new for 1965 Turbo-Jet 396 cubic inch with hydraulic lifters and a 4-bbl carburetor being the most popular model. This engine was standard in the Super Sport Sedan along with a heavy duty frame and a luxury interior. All the General Motors cars that year changed their frame stlyes to support the heavier luxury models that they were building. This new framework also cut down on the noise and they were able to use stronger springs and shocks for a superior and more comfortable riding experience. This was part of a line of automobiles that came out of the Chevrolet factory that year that was hard to compete against. This was a fast automobile with a lot of power that you could put your entire family in without crowding them. What a design marvel this was for a time when families were large and horsepower was the rule. This car had a model which boasted a 425HP version. Talk about excess power this car bolted out of the stalls like a rocket ship to Mars! Chevy had really outdone itself as the cars were sleek and stylish and some of the most powerful stock models for the 1965 model year. They has to be to compete with the Ford Mustang and the Pontiac LeMans which were selling like hotcakes themselves. Chevrolet did more that compete this model year selling well over two million cars.
